Starý Grandpa Munster dostane po půl století od legendární strašidelné série lehce transexuální příchuť. Do jeho role nastupuje britský stand-up komik a post-pythonovec Eddie Izzard.

Po půl století se The Munsters vrací jako bizarní kombinace krvesavého "True Blood" a americké mocumentary "Modern Family", alespoň podle referencí na bloody-disgusting.com k prosakujícím detailům z připravovaného pilotu. Ten má na starosti režisér Bryan Singer, který se v minulosti podepsal především za komicsácká díla "Superman Returns" a "X-Men".

Rodinné peripetie opět oživí upíři, vlkodlaci, Frankensteinovo monstrum a malý chlapec Eddie (v roli Mason Cook, "Spy Kids"), zhrozen pravdou o jeho bestiálních genech odmítající pojídat maso.

Jeho jmenovec Eddie Izzard, proslulý britský komik, který ve svých stand-upech otevřeně přiznává transexualitu, se do upírské tématiky vrátí po letech od hostování ve snímku "Shadow of the Vampire". Čtenáři jej mohli zaznamenat také v glamrockovém dramatu o časech Ziggyho Stardusta, kde ztvárnil manažera Jerryho Devina.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller shared a first ever look at actor Eddie Izzard being fitted for his role as Grandpa Munster in NBC’s “Mockingbird Lane,” their television reboot of “The Munsters” that also stars Charity Wakefield, Mason Cook and Jerry O’Connell.

The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy “Pushing Daisies.” Cook will play Eddie Munster, Lily and Herman’s only child, an earnest boy scout and budding werewolf. Horrified to learn the truth about himself, he refuses to eat meat and faces off against Grandpa (Izzard) at dinner.

I’m very excited to see this on NBC’s slate this coming fall. I’m still a huge fan of Fuller’s “Dead Like Me” and expect this to be a beautiful disaster.
