Bloody Dead and Sexy: The really good songs write themselves.

Sanctuary.cz: Hello from the Czech Republic! How are you doing right now, what’s the mood in the band and your mood in these complicated times generally?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Hell-o back! The mood is apocalyptically good, as is the overall mood on the planet. We used these complicated times to make an album.

Sanctuary.cz: There hasn't been any news about you regarding studio recordings in the last 5 years or so, it’s been almost a decade since you released your last studio album. What caused this pause and what did you do in the meantime? Have you been engaged in other musical activities or did you take a break from music completely?

Bloody Dead and Sexy:  You're right, it's been pretty quiet around us in recent years. We've never been a band with a career plan. We try to live in the moment. Our watches are different. If an album wants to be written, it will be written. If not, then not. And now it was time.

Sanctuary.cz: Despite the studio hiatus, you never broke up and from time to time, you at least performed at various festivals. Was it also because you didn’t really want to put the band aside?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Just as there is sometimes no reason to make an album, there is no reason to break up the band. The band is a big part of what we do. We've played together in an almost unchanged constellation since the beginning. Matias 13 and I took the time to found a new project called Psi Club. The debut album will be out next year.

Sanctuary.cz: You’re even working on a new album right now. Can you share any details about it? Will you manage to bring it with you to Prague in March?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: The new album will be titled "Fade to Glitter" and will be released later this year. Although we finished the work on it a year ago, unfortunately it won't be ready for the gig in Prague. The pressing plants have a huge production backlog at the moment. That sucks, but it is what it is.

Bloody Dead and Sexy - One By One

Sanctuary.cz: What’s it like to produce new material today in comparison to writing your very first songs? Is it possible to compare it or is it something completely different due to the gained experience?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: That is an interesting question. We used to approach the writing of the songs with 100% naivety. The anger and desperation of youth that we can no longer reproduce today. Many new facets have been added to this. It sounds crazy, but the conscious influence of the artist on his work is overestimated anyway. You only actively write the average songs. The really good songs write themselves. For us, songwriting is more of a spiritual act than a craft.

Sanctuary.cz: If I’m not mistaken, you’ve been on the scene for more than 25 years. However, you didn't have it easy at the beginning at all and I’ve read in an interview that you didn’t believe you’re gonna make more records than the debut “Paint It Red”. How do you remember these times?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: To be honest, it feels like a movie made by coked up maniacs. It's fun to watch excerpts from it. But I couldn't watch it again in its entirety.

Sanctuary.cz: With hindsight, can you name the most important and the most successful albums of Bloody Dead and Sexy which have been released before the break? If so, why do you choose these albums in particular?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Important and successful are two different things. The most commercially successful were our first albums in the early 2000s. After that, the market for physical sound mediums was broken and the editions got smaller and smaller. In principle, that was the case for everyone and hits the smaller bands hard. Each album has its important meaning for us in the respective phase of our lives. The most important album for me at the moment is what is about to come out. As I said, we live in the moment.

Sanctuary.cz: There’s been a time when you’ve been quite big on the scene and you performed at a large number of events. Do you see some difference between the current scene and the scene in years 2005-2010?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: It sounds harsh, but I'm afraid people are on average 15 years older now. At its core, goth and punk is a youth culture, no matter how old the people are. A statement against the mainstream and a commitment to your own path. I think young people today have a much harder time escaping the mainstream. But I believe there will always be a place for the scene. Sometimes it will be smaller and sometimes it will be larger. The human desire for rebellion is too substantial for that.

Sanctuary.cz: And if we talk about deathrock only, do you notice any essential development compared to the years when you were a new band and had your own role models?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Difficult to say. I believe that every genre has to evolve in order not to end up as a knockoff of itself. There are too many bands just copying what they like without even understanding the soul of it. The bands they copy were damn innovative at the time. We try our best to be too.

Sanctuary.cz: Gitane Demone sang with you on the album “Bad Ambient”. Can we expect any guests on the new album? Is there someone in the scene who would you like to have as a guest on your album?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Working with Gitane has been and continues to be an incredible experience. We always had one or two guests with us on the last albums and it was always very enriching. This time, however, we made a conscious decision not to do so. We wanted the pure essence of Bloody Dead And Sexy. I don't know what the future will bring.

Bloody Dead and Sexy - Bloody Rose

Sanctuary.cz: Are you looking forward to the concert in Prague? Are you going to perform any new songs?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Yes, we are really looking forward to it. Especially because we've met a lot of Czech fans at our concerts in the last years, but, hard to believe, we've never played in the Czech Republic ourselves. This is an error that we will now correct. And yes, we plan to play some of our new songs for the first time there.

Sanctuary.cz: Can you recall the most bizarre experience you had whilst touring of Bloody Dead and Sexy?

Bloody Dead and Sexy: It's harder to remember things that aren't bizarre on tours. We used to get booked to all sorts of fetish parties for a while. Probably because of our name. This led to all sorts of bizarre circumstances, which I really don't want to discuss here.

Sanctuary.cz: Do you have a message for your Czech fans? Thank you for your time and we are looking forward to your visit!

Bloody Dead and Sexy: Thank you for being so patient with us. We are really looking forward to play the show you deserve you and hope to see one or the other of you in Prague.
