Všestranný skladatel a hudebník Elliott Sharp představí v klubu PUNCTUM svůj nový knižní počin Feedback: Translations From The IrRational a sólové vystoupení na kytaru a elektronické nástroje.

Kniha Feedback, která vyjde na podzim v nakladatelství Wesleyan University Press, pojednává o mnoha pojmech zpětné vazby: od původu vědomí přes socioakustiku až po mysl improvizátora a zahrnuje také aspekty memoárů a kulturní a politické diskuse.

Slovo nakladatele: Feedback je široce pojatá úvaha o hudbě, zvuku, umělé inteligenci, vědomí, současné kultuře a politice a životě hudebníka na turné. Autor knihy Elliott Sharp je považován za jednu z ústředních postav newyorské downtown scény – skladatel, producent, multiinstrumentalista, vizuální umělec a pedagog. Sharp, který má vědecké vzdělání, objevil svou vášeň pro hudbu jako teenager a ta ho již nikdy neopustila. Jeho filozofie je ovlivněna nejen hudbou a jejím tvořením, ale také pokračujícím studiem fyziky a genetiky a hlubokým zájmem o náš moderní svět, jeho radosti i hrůzy. V knize Feedback se Sharp zabývá spekulativními úvahami o tom, jak mohlo vzniknout vědomí a co přinese lidstvu budoucnost s nástupem umělé inteligence, která je sice umělá, ale nemusí být nutně inteligentní. „Mysl improvizátora“ je diskutována v kontextu postkvantové fyziky, pravděpodobnosti, socioakustiky a tance Butó. Sharp rád odbočuje do nepředvídatelných oblastí, ale vše spojuje do uceleného příběhu, který je zároveň osobní i konceptuální.

Elliott Sharp vede SysOrk, Orchestra Carbon, Terraplane a Tectonics a je průkopníkem použití fraktální geometrie, teorie chaosu a genetiky v hudební kompozici a interakci. Jeho opera Port Bou měla premiéru v říjnu 2014 v Issue Project Room a jeho suita Tribute:MLK Berlin '64 zahájila Berlínský jazzový festival 2014. Skladba Storm Of the Eye se objevuje na albu In 27 Pieces houslistky Hilary Hahn, které získalo cenu Grammy, a skladba Turing Test pro Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart měla premiéru na Benátském bienále v roce 2012. Sharp se představil na festivalech New Music Stockholm, Darmstadt, Donaueschingen a Au Printemps a je protagonistou dokumentárního filmu Doing The Don't. Sharp získal Berlínskou cenu za hudební kompozici v roce2015, Guggenheimovo stipendium v roce 2014 a stipendium Centra pro transformativní média v roce 2014. V roce 2003 obdržel stipendium Foundation For Contemporary Art.

Polymath composer and musician Elliott Sharp will present an evening at PUNCTUM including reading from his new book Feedback: Translations From The IrRational and a solo performance on guitar and electronics.

Feedback will be published by Wesleyan University Press in the autumn and is about the many notions of feedback: from the origin of consciousness to socioacoustics to improviser’s mind and also includes aspects of memoir and cultural and political discussion.

From the Publisher: Feedback is a wide-ranging meditation on music, sound, artificial intelligence, consciousness, contemporary culture and politics, and the life of the touring musician. Author Elliott Sharp is considered one of the central figures in NYC's Downtown Scene and is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, and educator. Starting from a background in the sciences, Sharp found his passion for music as a teen, and it has never abated. His philosophy is informed not just by music and its creation but by continuing studies in physics and genetics and a visceral interest in our modern world and its joys and horrors. In Feedback, Sharp engages in speculative thought about how consciousness might have arisen and what the future holds for humanity with the advent of an Artificial Intelligence that is certainly artificial but might not exactly be intelligent. The "Improviser's Mind" is discussed in the context of post-quantum physics, probability, socio-acoustics, and Butoh dance. Sharp loves to digress into unpredictable areas but ties it all together in an overarching narrative that is both personal and conceptual.

Elliott Sharp leads SysOrk, Orchestra Carbon, Terraplane, and Tectonics and pioneered use of fractal geometry, chaos theory, and genetics in musical composition and interaction.
His opera Port Bou premiered October 2014 at Issue Project Room and his suite Tribute:MLK Berlin '64 opened the 2014 Berlin Jazz Festival. Sharp was awarded the Berlin Prize for Music Composition for 2015; a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2014; a Fellowship from the Center for Transformative Media in 2014. In 2003, he received a Fellowship from the Foundation For Contemporary Art.
